The Calgary Stampede is such a part of life in Calgary that it has become a part of our civic identity. This year, for the first time in its history, the Calgary Stampede has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today would have been the first day of the Calgary Stampede 2020 so we are bringing you a virtual behind-the-scenes tour of some of our favourite Stampede-related objects. We have so much Stampede content that this tour needs to be split into two parts.

Stampede Behind-the-Scenes-Tour Part 1

Today’s tour includes a sign for the 1909 Provincial Exhibition, which was held five years before the first official Stampede in 1912. We’ll also examine Guy Weaddick’s belt buckles, some special hand beaded western shirts, well-worn boots that belonged to the first Indigenous Stampede Queen, and much more.
