The best art party in town just got even cooler thanks to the opening of Vanishing Ice: Alpine and Polar Landscapes in Art 1775 - 2012. We'll be celebrating with arctic -inspired treats and activities and welcoming all of our new exhibitions - Made in Calgary: The 2000s, Where Are The Children? and From Our Collection: Searching for the Northwest Passage - with music, visuals, libations and much, much more.

"How do we see things?" The role of the audience and how we perceive art is key to many of the pieces in Made in Calgary: The 2000s. This curator-led tour will take you through a multitude of installations and encourage you to engage with the art in a variety of ways.

Join curator Katherine Ylitalo for a combined tour of Made in Calgary: The 2000s exhibitions at Glenbow and the Nickle Galleries on the University of Calgary campus. We'll start at Glenbow and then take the C-train to the U of C. Following the tour, we'll return downtown by C-train.

Weekend at the Museum

Join moderator and Made in Calgary: The 2000s curator Katherine Ylitalo and panelists Renato Vitic, M.N. Hutchinson and Christine Sowiak for a lively discussion on turn-of-the-21st-century art. The event begins with Tomas Jonsson performing a piece by the late artist Kenny Doren and will conclude with a party celebrating the entire Made in Calgary exhibition series.

Join Glenbow's Blackfoot educator to explore the personal stories in the exhibition and hear first-hand about the long-term effects the residential school system has had on First Nations survivors across Canada.


Glenbow special events and programs are for those who want an enhanced experience and to engage with the museum in a different way. Go behind the scenes, spend your lunch break with a curator learning about a feature exhibition or enjoy an unscripted conversation style talk between a high profile artist, writer, politician or expert. Families will enjoy exploring their creative side at Weekend at the Museum and foodies can indulge their curiosity (literally and figuratively) at the popular Art for the Senses events. Finally, experience Glenbow after dark at the Launch Party which gives you an unexpected museum experience mixing art opening with live music, unique performance and a bar.
