Summer Programs at Glenbow

Kids have amazing experiences at Glenbow's Summer Youth Programs!

Groups of five or more kids (maximum 30) are invited to become museum explorers. Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic Museum Educators will create a grand adventure where kids can discover cool facts and ideas about art, culture and history with hands-on activities in Glenbows galleries.

Perfect for groups of summer camps, daycares, birthday parties, home schoolers and eager young learners. Programs can be booked at any time during museum hours; book more than one for a full morning/afternoon experience. Our lunch room can be booked for complimentary use on a first-come, first-served basis.

Minimum 5 children, maximum 30 children. Programs suitable for children ages 6 and up.

NEW! Magnificent Murals

Discover the incredible (and huge!) paintings by Alex Janvier in our feature summer exhibition. Explore how the artist tells a story with colour and shape and movement in his large-scale murals. Act out inspired tableaus with your group and then move to our art studio to create an abstract artwork of your own.

NEW! Calgary in the Making

Get hands-on with real artifacts used by farmers, ranchers, and the Northwest Mounted Police as we discover the history of Calgary. See what our city looked like before skyscrapers and imagine what life was like in the past as we explore Glenbows Mavericks galleries. Complete your experience by designing your own branding iron symbol!

NEW! Art of Asia

The mind is everything. What you think, you become. - Buddha. Join us as we explore Glenbows peaceful Art of Asia gallery and discover the meaning behind Buddha hand signals represented in the ancient sculptures. Play an artifact guessing game, complete an in-gallery drawing activity and finish with a short meditation experience!

Exploring Canadian Landscapes

View the incredible art from our historical collection to discover how artists explored our nation and shared their adventures with the world. Following an in-gallery writing activity, explorers will move into our art studio and add colourful illustrations to their words.

Welcome, Newcomers!

Imagine yourself as a 19th century immigrant to Canada and rummage through the suitcases of people who came to Alberta to find out how and why peoples of varied ancestry made Alberta their home and discover these 'newcomers' experiences in Glenbow's Mavericks gallery.

Artifact Explorers*

Join a Museum Educator as you discover treasures from Glenbow Museum's collection of artifacts from around the world. Through sketching and journaling, explore the galleries and create your own interpretation of the collection.

* Book this program together with any other summer program and the $60 program fee is waived.
