Learning to Draw
(Fine Arts, Language Arts)
Being an artist isn't only about creating paintings, drawings or sculptures. Sometimes being an artist is about how you look at the world around you. Slowing down to draw makes us look more deeply and critically. This skill building program will help students focus on their observation skills and drawing techniques to capture the essence of the artifact.

Portraiture: Conversations with Art + Studio
(Art, Social Studies)
What is a portrait? Can it be a place or is a person the only focus? Working within Glenbow's art galleries, students will look deeply and discuss several works of art to determine what it takes to create a portrait. Why were these pieces created? What is the story within the piece? Following this in depth discussion, students will move into our art studio and create portraits of their own!

Ways of Looking + Studio
(Fine Arts, Language Arts)
Walk into a work of art and discover the world beyond its surface. Viewing art is more than a visual experience. An art encounter can awaken all of your senses! We will use works of art and sense-tools to develop the skill of looking deeply and explore the role our senses play in perceiving the world around us. To conclude the program students will participate in a hands-on, sensory-based art activity.
