Volunteering

Thanks to hundreds of dedicated volunteers, Glenbow Museum has a strong and vital volunteer program. Through their enthusiasm, efforts, and involvement we are able to enhance our programs, better manage our collections, and provide our visitors with a great experience.

In return, our volunteers enjoy some of the best artifacts, books, and archival material in Canada. As an organization, we believe that volunteers are vital to the work we do; they also act as strong advocates in the community. Our volunteers are all ages, come from all backgrounds, and are passionate about sharing their time, talents, and energy with us. Some volunteers have been with us over 20 years and continue to volunteer regularly.

As a Glenbow Museum volunteer, you are a part of a unique team. We are proud to be one of the most entrepreneurial museums in Canada, offering excellent exhibits and programs. We work hard to make each part of your experience positive; all museum staff welcome the opportunity to work with committed volunteers and we pride ourselves on the team atmosphere the Glenbow Museum offers to everyone.

By helping in all our work units, volunteers benefit in many ways, including:

Volunteers also receive a family membership and gift shop discounts after 100 hours of service, unlimited access to galleries and exhibitions, discounted prices on ticketed events, frequent curator-led tours, special recognition events, reference letters, and more. Here's your chance to get involved.

Explore our Program Overview page to learn about the types of volunteer roles we offer. Some opportunities require more experience and skills than others, but we offer great training and individual orientation sessions. Whether you want to learn, share, explore, discover, or engage, there are lots of ways you can contribute to Glenbow Museum. Join us and help make history.

Then visit our Current Opportunities page to see where we are currently recruiting. Visit the Current Opportunities page often, as our needs vary throughout the year.

Please note we are only recruiting for those roles listed in Current Opportunities.

Testimonials

"I have enjoyed every minute of volunteering at the Glenbow especially because I am a university student and I do have part-time jobs, so volunteering is a great way to spend your free time helping kids and having fun. Something very positive about the Museum is that it can be seen as a public space in which all ages are welcome and can interact. I believe I will be volunteering at the Glenbow as long as I'm in Calgary because it is a place to be educated, entertained, interact, and many other qualities which would not be as effectively given to visitors, if there were no volunteers." — Joey S.
