From Our Collection: Canadiana

What does it mean to be Canadian? There is no single answer to this perennial question, but rather an ongoing, continual process of negotiating our collective, regional and community identities, our sovereignty, and our relationships with the land and environment.

As Canadians we often laugh at ourselves or criticize things we could do better; but we can also be fiercely, if quietly, proud. From pop culture ephemera (a “Canadian” Barbie, a Wayne Gretzky lunchbox…) to historical artifacts (early proto-type Canadian flags, William Pearce’s snowshoes…), offers just a few ways Canadians continue to define the culture of the True North.
