Hockey career. -- 1929-1942, 1947-1948. -- 87.5 cm of textual records and other material. -- Arthur Rice-Jones was a well known goalkeeper in hockey. He played for the Elmwood Millionaires Junior Hockey Team from 1929-1931, the Winnipeg Monarchs Junior Hockey Team from 1931-38, The Queen’s Club of London from 1933-1934, The Gold Miners Hockey Club from 1938-1939 and the Calgary Stampeders Senior Hockey club from 1939 until 1942 when Rice-Jones entered the Second World War. After the war, Rice-Jones managed Calgary’s Junior Hockey Club, the Calgary Buffalos from 1947-1948. -- The series consists of scrapbooks created by Art and his family, documenting his participation in the various teams, and miscellaneous newspaper clippings. -- Note: See series 3 for letters sent between Arthur and his parents during his trips to Europe with the Queen’s Club of London and the Winnipeg Monarch’s international tour. Second World War service. -- 1940-1945. -- 12.5 cm of textual records and other material. -- Arthur Rice-Jones enlisted in the Calgary Highlanders in 1940, and served as a lieutenant from 1942-1945. He was wounded in France in 1944. -- The series consists of scrapbooks created by Art documenting his experience serving in the Second World War. This includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, personal items, and Calgary Highlanders reunion dinner programs. -- Note: See Series 3 for correspondence between Art and his family while in training, on active duty, and in the hospital following his injury.
