Diaries and notebooks. -- 1856-1930. -- 18 cm of textual records. -- The series consists of volumes written by Thomas Mower Martin, which describe his daily activities, progress on paintings, and also include such things as art sketches; drafts of essays, poetry, literary, and religious writings; financial accounts; lists of carpentry and building supplies; gardening notes (lists of plants and flowers); sketches and descriptions of inventions; and lists of letters received. The 1859-1962 volume (M-8931-2) includes a list of projected costs for a move to Canada. He frequently re-used earlier volumes, by writing in the blank pages at a later date.
